Spatial Systems Associates Inc. (SSA) is a full-service Geographic Information Systems (GIS) implementation and support provider based in Columbia, Maryland along the I-95 corridor between Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland. The principals of SSA have been implementing GIS technology since 1987; our staff of thirty has expertise in many related disciplines. Clients have included federal, state, county, municipal, and private sector organizations throughout the mid-Atlantic region.

SSA is an authorized Esri developer and reseller. Esri is the world's leading GIS software provider; their products are the de facto industry standard. Building on the Esri platform, we provide services and support to our clients in the following areas:

The SSA Team

Larry E. Newman, P.E., LEED AP | President

Larry has more than 30 years engineering experience in civil, structural, hydraulic/hydrologic engineering, and highway design projects. Since 1984, Larry has been responsible for the implementation of information technology in technical offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, including federal, state, local government, utility, and offices of the A/E community. Services he has provided include needs analysis, database design, configuration, integration, installation, training, programming, and data capture (scanning and digitizing) services for both CADD and GIS implementation, and integration of GIS technology with other engineering systems and analysis modules.

Larry began implementing GIS technology in 1987, focusing on engineering and local government clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Recognizing the potential of GIS, he became the co-founder of Spatial Systems Associates, Inc. (SSA), a Columbia, Maryland-based GIS implementation firm, in 1995. 

Eric Stetser, GISP | Vice President Geospatial Services

Eric has more than 25 years of experience in the productive use of GIS technology—in building GIS datasets and applications for federal, state, local government, utility, and private clients. Projects in which Eric played a major role include consulting, system design/architecture, database design, and translation between GIS data structures, programming, and training in the use of GIS technologies. He has extensive experience in GIS application design/development, project QA/QC, and business process review. In 1995 Eric became a co-founder of Spatial Systems Associates, Inc. Since then, Eric has acted as the project or program manager for all of SSA’s major projects as well as managing SSA’s technology infrastructure.

Eric enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters supporting their interests in the performing arts, visual arts, academics, and athletics. In his spare time, Eric is an avid motorcycle enthusiast and hopes to one day tour the entire USA on two wheels.
